Agavue Files Applications for over $80 Million of Federal Broadband Stimulus Funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
Albuquerque, New Mexico, Agavue, LLC, one of the leading Internet Services Providers in New Mexico, announced today that it has submitted applications for federal funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the "ARRA"). Of the $7.2 billion allocated for broadband infrastructure under the ARRA, $2.5 billion is administered under the Department of Agriculture's Broadband Initiatives Program ("BIP") for specific development of broadband networks and infrastructure in rural and underserved communities across the United States.
Agavue's applications covered over 100 communities around New Mexico and over 300 communities across Texas. According to CEO Scott Schooley, the company did extensive research within their service areas, identifying rural and otherwise underserved communities that would derive the greatest benefit from broadband access. Mr. Schooley went on to state, "Our goal is to implement broadband deployment in unserved and underserved rural areas helping to create new jobs and other significant public benefits. This innovative technology will enhance productivity and economic competitiveness in each of these towns. We also plan on offering broadband services to schools, libraries, medical care facilities and community centers in our towns at significant price discounts."
Agavue's broadband plans have been enthusiastically received in the proposed service areas. As part of the application process, Agavue obtained letters of support from the Lt. Governor of New Mexico, Members of the New Mexico Congressional Delegation, State Legislators, Mayors, City Council Members, County Commissioners and private citizens.
Agavue expects to hear later this year which of these communities will receive high-speed internet access with funds that were applied for in this process.
